Big Basin Redwoods State Park Selected as Best of the Bay Winner

Big Basin Redwoods State Park Selected as "Best of the Bay" Winner.

The readers and staff of the San Francisco Bay Guardian have selected Big Basin Redwoods State Park as a Best of the Bay Winner.

From the San Francisco Bay Guardian:

Best Place to Go Camping Without Driving All Day

Walk-in camping amongst the redwoods, tent cabins with wood stoves, great hiking trails, seeming isolation, and it's all to be found between Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz at Big Basin Redwoods State Park. This was California's first state park, and it remains one of the finest. The hike to see Berry Creek Falls is worth the trip alone. Bring a bike, as it's the best way to get around in these mountains. At 16,000 acres, the park is far too big to see on foot, and viewing it from a car pretty much defeats the purpose of going there. The park has lots of walk-in campsites, but for those who don't feel like roughing it, also has 35 tent cabins and more than 100 R.V. hookups. Despite that, it somehow manages to feel secluded. If you need to stock up on groceries and firewood, head down the road to Boulder Creek. Call well in advance to make reservations; since it is such a magnificent park so close to San Francisco and San Jose, it fills up early. To make reservations, call ReserveAmerica at 1-800-444-7275. Please call at least 48 hours in advance and up to 7 months in advamced
