Big Basin park headquarters in 2002

Park Headquarters

Park staff are available from 8:00am to 5:00pm every day to answer questions and assist with other concerns. You may also pay day use and camping fees here as well as purchase a trail map ($2.00) and a Self Guided Tour map ($0.25 each) of the Redwood Loop Trail. Use the Iron Ranger to make a day use or camp site payment after hours. If park staff are not available in the event of an emergency, dial 911 from the public telephones located next to Park Headquarters. Firewood is available for sale at Park Headquarters.

Restrooms and Showers

Restrooms are within close proximity to all camp sites. There is no cost to use the restrooms.

Coin operated showers are at Huckleberry and Sempervirens camps. The cost is $0.25 for 3 minutes.

General Store

Food, beverages, essential camping supplies, single speed bike rentals and more are available at the Big Basin Redwoods Store located across the street from Park Headquarters.

Open daily 10:00am to 4:00pm.

Closed during the months of December and January.

Gift Shop

Located next to the Big Basin Redwoods Store, you will find a wide selection of gifts, postcards, clothing and more.

Museum

See wonderful photographs of the area from years past, learn about redwood forests, and see the many birds, reptiles, insects and mammals that live in Big Basin.

Telephones

Public pay telephones are located next to Park Headquarters. Mobile phones generally do not work from the lower areas of the Park, including the area near Park Headquarters. Some may work at higher elevations. Traveling three miles (either direction) on Highway 236 generally puts you within reach of mobile phone service.

Tent Cabins

Registration for the Tent Cabins is at the Gift Shop or after hours at the Host Site at Huckleberry Campground. Click here for more information, including the Hassle-Free Camping Package.

Boulder Creek

There are several stores, restaurants, gas station, public telephpnes, and other services located in Boulder Creek just 9 miles from Park Headquarters.

Accessibility

Most campsites can be reached by automobile.

Some trails are wheelchair accessible.

Horses

Horses are allowed on Equestrian Trails and all double track trails in the Park. There are no horse rentals at or near Big Basin. For information about horse camps, click here.
